The government of the United Kingdom and the Department for Work and Pensions are collectively providing new cost of living payments to support families with low incomes. The situation in the UK economy is tightening each day to cope with rising bills. It was there in the past and the payments are very much like the allowance of £650 as a cost of living payment in 2022. That means you do not need to apply for this living payment because if you are eligible you will get paid the updated amount under the eligibility criteria.
Now it is given in three different circumstances under a particular period or age group etc. The first one is the cost of living payment based on low income benefits or tax credits. The second one is disability cost of living payment and it is for those who are disabled. Those pensioners can get winter fuel payment as first of living payment for 2022 to 2023.
According to government sources, you will get a payment of 650 pounds and that will be paid in two lump sums. You will get it as universal credit, income-based job seekers allowance (JSA), income related employment support allowance (ESA), income support, pension credit, child tax credit, and working tax credit.
The first lump of cost of living payment under Universal credit of 326 pounds and you are entitled to it as per the assessment period that ended on 26 April 2022 to 25th of May 2022. And the second cost of living payment of Universal credit for an assessment period that ended in the period 26 August 2022 to 25th September 2022. If you are not eligible when checking the assessment period, you will be awarded a ‘Nil award’. Then you want to be eligible for this cost of living payment and it will be completely reduced to 0 pounds. There are many reasons for such scenarios including multiple income sources or your partner’s income or savings etc.
For income based jobs allowance, Inga West employment and support allowance, pension credit, etc, the lumps will be from 26 April 2022 to 25 May and 26 August 2022 to 25 September 2022. And for tax credits, the cost of living payment eligibility comes under the period of 26 April 2022 to 25 May 2022 as the first lump. And the second payment after assessing the period 26 August 22 to 25 September 2022. The cost of living payment for the child tax credit will be paid by HMRC in the case of getting both the child tax credit and the working tax credit.
For the disability cost of living payment, your lump sum payment will be 150 pounds and eligibility checking will check the attendance allowance, constant attendants allowance, disability living allowance for adults, disability living allowance for children, personal Independence payment, adult disability payment in Scotland, child disability payment in Scotland, Armed force independent payment and war pension mobility supplement. If you are eligible please make sure that you are getting any of this.
Also, there are supporting systems like household support funds from the local Council in England, discretionary assistance funds in Wales, crisis grants for community care Grant in Scotland, and discretionary support and a short-term benefit advance in Northern Ireland that can also support your living costs. If you are eligible, you will get the complete funds they are offering.
