Rostin Behnam, a commissioner at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will sponsor the agency’s Market Risk Advisory Committee (MRAC).
The CFTC also announced temporary sponsors for the Agriculture Advisory Committee and the Global Markets Advisory Committee, until additional commissioners are confirmed by the US Senate.
Behnam will lead the MRAC, which advises the commission on matters related to evolving market structures and movement of risk across clearinghouses, exchanges, intermediaries, market makers and end-users.
“I look forward to continuing the important work of my predecessor for this committee, which studies an area that’s critical to the Commission’s mission,” says Behnam.
Rostin Behnam has been sworn in as a Commissioner of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Benham was unanimously confirmed by the US Senate on August 3. His term expires in June 2021.
“I am honoured to join the Commission at this critical time, working hard to protect investors and ensure the market is free of fraud and manipulation,” says Behnam after his swearing in today. “I look forward to working with chairman Giancarlo, my fellow and future commissioners and staff to address the issues before the Commission and support safe, transparent and competitive markets.”
“I welcome Russ to the commission,” says CFTC chairman, Christopher Giancarlo. “I look forward to working with him cooperatively and collaboratively on the important work that’s ahead of the commission.”
The US Senate has confirmed Christopher Giancarlo as the permanent chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), while Rostin Behnam and Brian Quintenz have been confirmed as commissioners.
Dawn Stump has also been nominated as a CFTC commissioner, but is still awaiting Senate confirmation.
“Honored to be confirmed by @ussenate as Chairman of the @CFTC, along w/2 new Comn’rs Benham & Quintenz. Expect Dawn Stump confirmation soon,” said Giancarlo on Twitter immediately after the Senate decision.
Giancarlo was named as the acting chairman of the CFTC in January and was nominated to head the Commission on a permanent basis in March.
