Survey Finds Increasing Support for CBDCs

A new survey from the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) and IBM finds increasing support for central bank issued digital currencies (CBDC).
OMFIF describes itself as “an independent think tank for central banking, economic policy and public investment” and says the new report describes potential use cases for central banks to support central bank digital currencies.
A CBDC is a digital form of fiat money, which is a currency established as money by government regulation. It differs from digital currencies, which are not issued by the state and lack the regulations of a government.

CLS and IBM Partner in DLT Initiative

CLS and IBM have announced a collaboration on a proof of concept (PoC) for LedgerConnect ? a distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform for the financial services industry designed to enable sell and buy side firms, FinTechs and software vendors to deploy, share and consume services hosted on a shared distributed ledger network.
The companies say that on the new initiative financial institutions will be able to access services in areas such as, but not limited to, know your customer processes, sanctions screening, collateral management, derivatives post-trade processing and reconciliation and market data.

DTCC Announces Partners for New DLT Project

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has selected IBM, in partnership with Axoni and R3, to provide a distributed ledger technology (DLT) framework for derivatives post-trade lifecycle events.

The firms will work collaboratively to re-platform DTCC’s Trade Information Warehouse (TIW), building a derivatives distributed ledger solution for post-trade processing based on existing TIW capabilities and interfaces with technology providers and market participants.

The TIW service currently automates the record keeping, lifecycle events, and payment management for more than $11 trillion of cleared and bilateral credit derivatives.
