Merrill Hires Chapman

Merrill Lynch has hired James Chapman as director and head of Asia power investment banking along with a five-member team, all previously from Lehman Brothers. At Lehman, Chapman was also responsible for supporting the sourcing and execution of foreign exchange, interest rate, and commodities hedging and other risk management solutions across power sector clients.

Liddy Takes On AIG Task

Edward Liddy has resigned as a member of Goldman Sachs’ board of directors after taking on the role of chairman and chief executive of American International Group (AIG). He had been a director of Goldman Sachs since June 2003 serving, among other positions, as chairman of the Audit Committee.

Williamson Leaves HSBC?

Gary Williamson, who worked in hedge fund sales has left HSBC, according to market sources. The bank did not respond to enquiries by press time.

Fortis Nominates Filip Dierckx As New Chief

Fortis Bank has appointed Filip Dierckx as its new chief executive with immediate effect, replacing Herman Verwilst.

Since 2000 Dierckx has been a member of the Fortis executive committee with chief executive responsibility for merchant banking. He joined the executive board in 1998 with overall responsibility for retail banking.
