Flow Traders has hired Joshua Mathew as head of FX trading, according to market sources.
Profit & Loss understands that Mathew, who is due to start in the last week of September, will be based in Amsterdam.
Mathew joins the Dutch electronic trading firm after 10 years at Barclays in London, where his work was focused on BARX, the bank’s e-trading platform.
Profit & Loss reported earlier this year on Flow Trader’s ambitions in the FX market, and one source close to the company suggests that combining Mathew’s FX market making experience with the firm’s existing technological expertise represents the next step in realising these ambitions.
The source indicates that Mathew will be given a wide mandate to help improve and grow Flow Trader’s FX trading business. This will include building out its electronic NDF trading capabilities, expanding the firm’s trading hours and possibly hiring additional staff to the FX team, which is currently led by Robbert Sijbrandij.
