Michael Irwin has been appointed chief operating officer of XTX Markets, the proprietary multi-asset market making company that was set up by GSA Capital’s Alex Gerko. Irwin, who is based in London, will report to Gerko.
Gerko, who is the head of electronic market making at GSA Capital, is in the process of spinning off the multi-asset electronic market making business into XTX Markets.
Irwin was previously managing director and global COO for listed execution and OTC clearing business at State Street Global Exchange. Prior to this he was co-head of the FX prime brokerage business at Morgan Stanley, running the business alongside James Reilly and reporting to Martine Bond, who moved to State Street Global Exchange as global head of trading and clearing.
Irwin and Reilly were previously in Bond’s prime brokerage team at JP Morgan and moved to Morgan Stanley with her in 2009.
