Guy Heald, chief executive officer of HSBC Securities (Japan) and country manager, Japan, HSBC Group, has announced his retirement, which will take effect at the end of October. He first joined the former Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in 1989 as chief treasury manager, Europe and Middle East.
He became treasurer of the bank following its merger with Midland in 1992, a role which gave him responsibility for dealing operations in London, New York and Tokyo which covered foreign exchange, money markets, debt origination and trading, and derivatives. He took his current role in March 2001 (see Profit & Loss, February 2001).
Prior to joining what became HSBC, he spent 12 years with Chemical Bank, becoming managing director in 1985, responsible for the bank’s international FX activities.
