Former Campbell & Company president Mike Harris has named as director of Family Office and partner at private wealth advisory firm Verdence Capital Advisors – he will lead the growth and enhanced offerings for the firm’s class of family office clients.
Harris spent almost two decades at hedge fund Campbell, where his leadership responsibilities included co-running the firm’s quantitative multi-strategy hedge fund, firm-wide executive management and strategic planning. Additionally, he recently served on the board of directors for the Managed Funds Association (MFA).
Before being appointed president of Campbell & Company, Harris managed the firm’s trading operations, which included global execution of all financial futures, commodities, cash equities and foreign exchange. He joined Campbell in 2000 as a European markets trader, and prior to that held roles with Refco and Morgan Stanley Managed Futures.
“From my first conversation with Mike, I knew he was exactly the type of professional that would fit perfectly into our culture. It was clear that he would embrace our collaborative environment,” says Leo Kelly, CEO and founder of Verdence Capital Advisors. “We could not be more excited to have him join as we continue to build out our offerings for family office clients and make Verdence the number one destination for families considering their next move as they look for assistance in building sustainable, impactful wealth strategies.”
Verdence offers a suite of services for family office clients, including family governance, transition planning, philanthropic strategy, concierge services, and advisor analysis.
“Even if we currently found ourselves in ‘normal’ conditions, we would still be embarking on a period that will see the greatest generational transfer of wealth in history,” says Harris. “Add to that the unprecedented events of the past several months and the litany of questions they raised for so many families, and it’s no wonder that many are embracing the multi-family office model. But not all family offices are created equal, and the approach that Verdence has pioneered, leading with transparency and education, is one that is already resonating widely, and I could not be more excited to be joining the team and helping to drive the next wave of growth.”
Harris also serves as a guest professor and lectures to undergraduate and graduate students at numerous local colleges and universities on alternative investments, hedge funds, global economic trends, financial market trading, and more. He is also the founder and president of a non-profit organisation called the Carson Harris Foundation (CHF), which is named after his daughter, who was diagnosed at five months of age with a rare form of epilepsy. CHF raises awareness around the issues faced by those affected with epilepsy and raises funds to support clinical and research efforts to better diagnose and treat those with epilepsy.
