Gain Capital, the online currency trading portal, has made four new appointments. Gordon Smith joins as vice president of systems development, assuming responsibility for all architecture, design and implementation services for the firm’s margin-based FX trading platform. Smith previously worked for the New York Stock Exchange, Merrill Lynch and Telerate. While working at Goldman Sachs, Smith designed and implemented trading applications for the firm’s FX, commercial paper and fixed income desks.
Koren Reyes joins as director of business development, responsible for all strategic partnerships and joint ventures from Royal Bank of Canada. Reyes spent the past decade at RBC, where she was most recently an FX options specialist. She has also designed and programmed trading models to help institutional traders and corporate hedgers understand and manage FX currency risk. Prior to RBC, Reyes spent three years in the corporate finance department of Barclays Bank/BZW.
Completing the new appointments, John Comatas and David Leaver are both to become senior traders. Comatas has been trading for 14 years, 11 of those in FX. Most recently he worked as a senior FX trader at Prudential, trading spot and forward FX. He also worked with Barclays Bank, Banque Indosuez and Comart. Leaver comes to Gain from BankBoston, where he was assistant vice president, global capital markets. He has nine years FX trading experience, having previously worked for Credit Commercial de France, Fuji Bank and Exco Noonan.
