CME Group recorded its third highest trading day on 22 January as US markets opened after the long weekend and reacted to Monday’s global markets meltdown.
Foreign exchange products traded on CME’s Globex electronic platform reached 1,188,631 contracts with a notional value of $160 billion; the previous record was 1,126,852 contracts, with a notional value of $134 billion, on August 16 last year.
Eurodollar futures reached 5,394,648 contracts; the previous record of 5,246,828 contracts was set on August 9, 2007. Euro FX on Globex was 428,738 contracts with the previous record of 419,907 traded on December 8, 2006.
Equity index futures, agricultural futures and Japanese yen options also reported record volumes.
