Circle, a fintech firm that offers a range of services in the crypto space, has hired John Barnett as VP and global controller.
In this capacity, Barnett will lead the firm’s accounting and tax teams and will also work to build out its business systems and procurement teams.
Most recently Barnett was the CFO at Ironwood Capital Management and the Rhode Island Foundation. His career has also included management consulting at BCG, controllership at Teradyne and financial operations and planning at Fidelity and Cabot.
Barnett is the latest in a series of recent senior hires at Circle. Patrick Corker joined in May to lead the firm’s treasury and trade finance functions. Previously, he worked as VP of financial operations at the crypto derivatives platform, LedgerX, and before that Corker was VP of product control at Goldman Sachs.
Chuck Kimble, most recently EVP of partnerships at Dashlane and previously head of strategic partnerships at Square, also joined Circle in July to lead partnerships for Circle USD Coin, a dollar-backed stablecoin, as well as lead membership for CENTRE, which provides independent oversight of Circle’s offering.
In addition, the firm has hired David Kinitsky, most recently the co-portfolio manager of an internal crypto investment at Fidelity Labs and previously general manager of Grayscale Investments, as director of corporate development and strategy.
