Subhas DeGamia has become director foreign exchange and commodities, local markets – Asia, a spokesperson for ANZ Investment Bank confirms. Based in Singapore, he will report directly to Rick Sawers, managing director, FX and commodities, and John Winders, managing director Asia. DeGamia was previously head of FX institutional sales, Australia, and the spokesperson says that in terms of a replacement, the bank’s structure is currently being considered.
Meanwhile, Melbourne-based John Collins was appointed director, foreign exchange and commodities, local markets – Pacific. He reports directly to Sawers and Bob Lyon, managing director Pacific and personal banking Asia, having spent the last three years as associate director FX, Asia Pacific. He joined ANZ in 1993 and has worked in a number of management roles in interest rates, FX and precious metals, prior to becoming head of markets, director of ANZ Panin Bank, in Jakarta in August 1998. Prior to joining ANZ, he spent a decade with Cargill in Minneapolis.
There were previously heads of FX and commodities for Asia and the Pacific at the bank, but the former incumbents were moved to other roles some time ago, the bank says. In the interim, Jim Dowling was overseeing both regions, until July when he was appointed joint head of local markets Australia, alongside George Diamantopolous. According to the spokesperson, the move of the Asia role from Melbourne to Singapore is a key change because it enables ANZ to increase focus on Asia.
