On the sidelines of the ACI 2010 World Congress in Sydney from March 25-28, ACI Australia, the host association, is planning a series of social events that will highlight the best of Sydney as well as provide the perfect opportunity for networking. The congress has attracted platinum sponsorship from ANZ Bank, Commonwealth Bank, HSBC (Australia) and Westpac. Profit & Loss is the event’s official media partner.
The business program, which was reported in the last issue of Profit & Loss, has been supplemented with the announcement of an asset manager panel. Confirmed speakers are Joe Bracken, head of macro strategies at BT Investment Management and Troy Rieck, managing director, capital markets at the Queensland Investment Corporation. Additional speakers will be announced in coming weeks.
The social program kicks off on Thursday, March 25 with the official welcome reception, sponsored by Thomson Reuters, an event the organisers say will be full of Australian entertainment and acts, including wood chopping and sheep shearing demonstrations.
Following the welcome, delegates will be transported by ferry from the convention wharf in Darling Harbour to the wharf at Doltone House, site of the welcome drinks and canapés, which is sponsored by Icap.
Following the intensive business sessions on Friday which will, among other things, discuss the future of financial markets and hear from two buy side panels on the challenges and opportunities in markets, delegates will embark on the Sydney Starship for an evening cruise around the beautiful Sydney Harbour, sponsored by FXall. The starship is Sydney’s largest five star floating venue, built entirely of glass and is set over three levels with indoor and outdoor space. Entertainment will be provided by three acts, a jazz band, a dance band and a “chill out” band.
Saturday’s discussions with the regulators and the first of its kind ACI Forum, which will look at the evolution of technology in markets, will be followed by a free afternoon and the Gala Dinner. This is sponsored by UBS and will be held at the Parkside Ballroom in the Darling Harbour Convention Centre.
Entertainment will be provided, by amongst others, the Surprise Opera Singers, Tap Dogs, and the Enormous Horns.
Reviving a theme of previous ACI Congresses hosted by ACI Australia, delegates will be able to recover from Saturday night’s entertainment with a Sunday Brunch, sponsored by Icap. The brunch will be held overlooking Darling Harbour on Sunday morning.
The organisers stress they are seeking to provide the perfect balance to a detailed and intensive business program and to fully utilise all that Sydney has to offer.
Details of how to register for the Congress, numbers for which at time of going to press were well in excess of 350, can be found at www.acicongress2010.com.
