John Duffy, treasurer of Banco do Brasil in New York for the past five years, has retired after 32 years in the market. He says he may continue participating in the market in a consulting role, something he did prior to joining the Brazilian bank. He started life as an FX broker with then Savage Lane. During his career, he worked for a number of institutions, including Bayerische Vereinsbank, Casa Torino, Arab Banking Corp, Security Pacific, Creditanstalt and Bank Austria, among others. "My proudest achievement was the presidency of RP Martin, New York, in the early eighties," he recalls. "I was able to turn the company around completely by hiring two of the best money brokers in the market. Unfortunately, we were so successful that we were taken over by Bierbaum and I found myself out of a job." Duffy adds, "I've had more lives than a cat - and more fund than anyone deserves. It was a hell of a ride and, who knows, I may come back some day!"
